I employ an intuitive methodology in the things I make, relying on instinct and immediate thought in my practice. I have tried to harness my passionate and determined approach to the development of the work.
An ambiguous and questionable space is opened up in front of the viewer, an array of vibrant colours and imagery is projected along with surreal sculptural structures, to create a heuristic environment.
Reading Jean Paul Sartre and looking at the work of Cartier Bresson influenced me in creating a feeling of a moment captured in fluctuating complexity, looking at the way life is spent and how movement is made, without necessarily considering that which has come before. The painter John Monks’ use of colour and pictorial structure and Edward Hopper’s compositional framing inspired me to examine the use of space as an emotional index.
I have been looking at a mixture of philosophical theory including Heidegger, John Gray, Sartre, Lao Tzu, Foucault, and Proust, and the work is a reflective meditation on them. Asking questions on multiple layers, which I hope will make a space for the viewer as well.
Moving forward I intend to explore the interactional element of my work either through a Masters degree, or my own professional undertakings.
