Watching Meanwhile 2
So i was interupted the first time I was writing this post so I thought I would give myself time to reflect and then try and look back over Meanwhile and recall my experience.
Where were we... An almost equal amount of digital work compared to the physical work we had chosen. We really set out to do something a bit different and with this we feel we achieved it. Early talks of a projection room were met with mixed feelings as we didn't want to create to much of a division between digital and physical. We we came to setting up the show, we found that the darker room lent itself to the digital work and this provided basis for the rest of the process.
Initially the group decided that we would split up and curate the individual rooms in two teams, myself on the digital room team. This as a room provided me the means to fulfil an idea id been toying with recently of a room of projections set out as if they were a traditional exhibition of paintings. Really glad to be a part of this, I dove headlong into a process of movement and placement that ended up with both video work are still digital work together, creating a great relationship across the room.
We got to the end result after a continuous battle to problem solve and overcome technical difficulties left right and centre, but i feel it was all worth it as I climbed dow a really tall ladder to stand back and assess what we had created. With international and local artists showcased side by side, with both small and large projections for individual work. We had created a room of art work that spoke to each other and represented a wide array of contemporary art practice.
After several small adjustments we brought our other team through from the completed other room to see what we had done and get any feedback that we needed to. Over all everyone was happy with our progress, we clarified a few things as to why we made the choices we had, and everyone ended up agreeing fully we had done the work justice.
